NL - Filmmaker en acteur Adams Mensah keert terug naar Ghana, het land waar hij geboren is en de helft van zijn leven spendeerde. 'Ghana For You' is deel van een groter project waarin Adams peilt naar de oorzaken die jonge Ghanezen ertoe aanzetten te emigreren. Vertrekkend vanuit zijn persoonlijke levensverhaal gaat hij op zoek naar mogelijke verklaringen. 

Adams moest zelf van zijn vader naar Europa komen, hij had geen keuze. Op zijn veertiende ging hij bij zijn vader, die sinds jaren van Accra naar Brussel was verhuisd, wonen. Zijn leefwereld en denkbeelden veranderden drastisch. Nu leeft Adams ondertussen even veel jaren in België als hij in Ghana heeft gewoond en stelt hij zich de vraag: Waarom zijn Ghanezen zo geneigd om naar Europa te komen?

Op zoek naar mogelijke antwoorden neemt Adams Belgische en Ghanese vrienden en kennissen mee op een ontdekkingsreis door Ghana. Door van zijn eigen zoektocht een collectieve zoektocht te maken, probeert Adams de context te creëren waarin gesprekken tot complexe maatschappelijke discussies kunnen leiden.

Uit ervaring weet hij dat wanneer hij als individu deze gesprekken aangaat met mensen in Ghana, hij snel krijgt toegeworpen dat hij makkelijk praten heeft. Hij is namelijk geëmigreerd en zit in een zogezegd comfortabele positie om kritische vragen te stellen. Adams is zich bewust van zijn positie in de Ghanese samenleving en probeert deze te doorbreken door zichzelf te kaderen in een breder gezelschap.

EN - Filmmaker and actor Adams Mensah returns to Ghana for his new filmproject ‘Ghana For You’. ‘Ghana For You’ is part of a bigger project Adams is working on. In this project Adams tries to find out what the motivations are for Ghanaians to migrate from Ghana to other parts of the world. Starting from his own personal experiences as a Ghanaian who was born in Ghana and lived half of his life in Ghana and the other half in Europe, Adams tries to find answers and explanations.

In ‘Ghana For You’ Adams travels through Ghana with a group of friends which according to him will bring different perceptions towards the motivations and the imaginary construction the Ghanaians have about Europe or the western world. Adams himself migrated to Europe at the age of 14 to live with his father who has been living in Belgium for years. His way of living and way of thinking changed drastically. After living in Belgium as well as in Ghana, he is stuck with the following questions: Why do Ghanaians want to travel to Europe or other parts of the world? What are they missing in Ghana? What is the life style in Ghana? Lots of young Ghanaians are convinced they can only have a better life in Europe or in the western world and how is that accurate in reality?

Adams is aware of his position in the Ghanaian society and tries to break it by mixing himself with a group of friends. In search of possible answers, Adams takes his friends which are both Belgians and Ghanaians on a road trip through Ghana. For making his own curiosity a collective curiosity, Adams tries to create a context whereby conversations can lead to intriguing societal conversations.
