Black speaks Back - 'EUphoria' (2018, 24’)
NL - 'EUphoria' is de allereerste Afrofuturistische musicalfilm gemaakt door Afro-Europese jongeren. Doorheen vijf korte verhalen stelt deze film een Europa voor vanuit het perspectief van de jonge Afrikaanse diaspora. Ze kaarten thema’s aan zoals identiteit, discriminatie, milieu en vervuiling. De getalenteerde jonge Europeanen hebben zich maandenlang toegewijd aan dit project door middel van workshops, bootcamps en studiosessies. Deze film vertaalt hún liefde, angst en hoop voor de toekomst in de vorm van poëzie, rap, dans en zang.
EN - 'EUphoria' is the very first Afro Futuristic musical film made entirely by Afro-European youth. Through five short stories this film envisions the future of Europe from the perspective of the young African diaspora. They address themes such as identity, discrimination, environmental issues, and pollution. The talented group of young Europeans fully dedicated themselves for months through workshops, bootcamps, and studio sessions. This film translates their excitement, fear, and hope for the future into poetry, rap, movement and choir.

NL - "De post-apocalyptische sciencefictionfilm 'Pumzi' geeft ons een glimpse van een afrofuturistische toekomst vanuit (Sub-Saharisch) Afrikaans perspectief. 'Pumzi' geeft ons een kijkje "aan de andere kant" nadat Europa in verval raakt, geteisterd wordt door extreme weersomstandigheden vanwege klimaatverandering en technologische achteruitgang kent als direct gevolg van de breuk met het moedercontinent. 'Pumzi' toont ons een technologisch hoog ontwikkeld Afrika, maar stelt eveneens kritische vragen bij het gebruik en behoud van ecologische bronnen. 'EUphoria' en 'Pumzi' zijn totaal verschillende, maar ook zeer complementaire afrofuturistische kortfilms."
EN - “The post-apocalyptic science fiction film ‘Pumzi’ gives us a glimpse into an Afrofuturistic future from a (Sub-Saharan) African perspective. ‘Pumzi’ gives us an insight of “the other side”. After Europe collapsed, plagued by extreme climatic conditions and of course the technological decline caused by the break with the mother continent. ‘Pumzi’ shows us however a technologically highly developed Africa and asks critical questions about the use and conservation of ecological sources. 'EUphoria' and 'Pumzi' are completely different, but also very complementary Afrofuturistic short films.”
