Een trage camerazwenking en een harde montagesprong zijn de centrale bewegingen in ‘For Now’. De film voltrekt zich in golven. Publieke plekken, parken en pleinen – Levinsky Park, Habima Square, Lion Square, Zucotti Park, Maximiliaanpark, Times Square – en pastorale landschappen aan de uiteinden van de Middellandse Zee komen en gaan. Varianten op gebeurtenissen: mensen wachten, passeren, leven hun levens, doden de tijd. Hier geen vluchtelingen in beeld, geen manifestanten of soldaten, geen spektakel. Een film naast de kwestie en naast de tijd, met de vinger op de kwesties van deze tijd.

In ‘Carry On’ door Mieriën Coppens zien we enkelingen wachten, stilte wordt gehoord, een microscopische aandacht gaat door een vermoeide menigte. De film is bijna onhoorbaar omdat hij zich op stille figuren richt, hoewel hun strijd oorverdovend is.
‘10th of November | 9:05’ toont ons hoe Turkse burgers elk jaar op 10 november om stipt 09u05 hun activiteiten stil leggen om het overlijden van Mustafa Kemal Atatürk te herdenken.

The central two movements in ‘For Now’ are panoramic shots and firm, vertical edits. The film unfolds in waves. Locations appear, disappear, and come round again – Lewinsky Park, Maximilian Park, Habima Square, Lion Square, Zuccotti Park, Times Square or pastoral landscapes at opposite ends of the Mediterranean Sea. The actions are the same: people wait, pass by, kill time. No refugees in the picture here, no demonstrators or soldiers, no spectacle. It is a film running alongside events, alongside time. A contemporary film in the pure sense of the word - a way of being with time.

In ‘Carry On’ by Mieriën Coppens we see individuals wait, silence is heard, a microscopic attention through a tired mass. If the film is almost mute it is because it focuses on silent figures, although their struggle is deafening.
